Album Review: Kenteezy’s self titled Ep
Kenteezy, a Nigerian-born singer/songwriter, is known for his deep indigenous lyricism, with which he speaks to the soul. He has been releasing music professionally since 2020 and has collaborated with stars like Harteez, Mascara Vibez, and other indigenous artists since his journey began. Kenteezy’s debut EP was released in 2022, and now he’s back with his personal sophomore EP, where he stays true to himself throughout the 6 tracks, totaling 14 minutes and 28 seconds of pure indigenous conscious music. He praises God for keeping him safe, reflecting on the loss of those around him. He also incorporates a popular religious chorus, “odun lo sopin,” into the song. Following “Hallelujah” is “Worri Worri,” where Kenteezy reassures his love interest that he’s not the type to leave her heartbroken, as he is completely obsessed with her. “My Matter,” featuring Zigiterry, is a hardcore street-coded Afro adura tune with the potential to fit beautifully into any lineup of Afro adura playlist curation. The fourth track on the EP, “20:15,” features Mascara Vibez. In this reminiscent song, Kenteezy recounts key moments in his life, highlighting his mother’s demise in 2015 and its impact on him. The track begins with a prayer rendition from his father before Kenteezy takes the spotlight away. The message is clear: never lose hope, as the results of your hard work are surely coming. With its deep lyrical content and relatable themes, this EP is a must-listen.
